Steven Decraene became the conductor of the Ghent University Symphony Orchestra when it was relaunched in september 2006. He also has been the conductor of the Bruges based symphony orchestra Artis Dulcedo since its foundation in 1997. He holds a master degree in Music writing (Ghent Conservatory). Besides attending several master classes, private lessons and summer courses by amongst others Ernst Schelle in Lyon, Jos van Immerseel and Ivo Venkov in Antwerp and Jorma Panula in St. Petersburg, he was also a guest conductor of the Flemish Radio Orchestra and The Plovdiv State Orchestra of Bulgaria. In 2007, Klara made him an "ambassador of classical music" as a reward for his foundation of the GUSO and he also received the Klara Publieksprijs. In the summer of 2009 he conducted at the Festival Centroamericano in Guatemala, and he taught his first conducting-masterclass at the Conservatorio Nacional de Guatemala.
